A small studio with a systems mindset.

Interfacedesignlab is an independent UI/UX design studio based in Sydney, Australia. We exist for one reason: to make digital products clearer, calmer and more considered.

The studio

Where research meets craft.

The studio was founded on a simple observation: most digital products don't fail because they look bad — they fail because they were designed around assumptions. Features ship that nobody asked for, flows grow tangled, and interfaces slowly stop making sense to the people using them.

Interfacedesignlab was built as the opposite of that process. Small enough to stay close to every project, rigorous enough to question every screen. We treat research as a design material, not a checkbox — and we treat visual craft as a functional quality, not a coat of paint.

The result is a working style that's deliberately low on theatre and high on thinking. We document our reasoning, prototype early, and design systems your team can keep using long after the engagement ends.

01 How We Think

Working principles.

/01

Understand first

We don't design from the brief alone. We look at the product, the users, the data and the constraints — then design from what we find, not what we were told.

/02

Show, don't promise

Wireframes and prototypes appear early in every engagement. You see the product taking shape in weeks, not at a final reveal months later.

/03

Function is aesthetic

A readable label, a forgiving form, a well-placed empty state — these are design decisions. We sweat them because users feel them.

/04

Leave things maintainable

Every project ships organised: named layers, reusable components, documented decisions. The next person who opens the file should thank us, not curse us.

02 Core Competencies

What we bring to a product team.

C.01

User research & strategy

Interviews, usability testing, journey mapping and audits that turn ambiguity into a prioritised design direction.

C.02

Interface design

High-fidelity UI for web and mobile — typography, colour, layout and component design with a strong editorial sensibility.

C.03

Systems & documentation

Design tokens, component libraries and usage guidelines that keep multi-screen products coherent.

C.04

Prototyping & validation

Interactive prototypes and structured usability sessions that de-risk decisions before development begins.

Working together

What an engagement looks like.

Most projects follow the same rhythm — short cycles, visible progress and decisions made together:

  • Kick-off & discoveryWe agree on scope, success criteria and a fixed quote before work begins.
  • Weekly design reviewsYou see work in progress every week and give feedback directly to the designer.
  • Structured revisionsEach package includes defined revision rounds, so scope stays honest on both sides.
  • Handoff & supportFinal files, specs and a walkthrough for your team — plus availability while they build.
